Caring For My Dobies
posted 1 year ago
Dr. Blair Burggren was on duty 4 years ago when our 22 month old Dobie Gunner was suffering from continuous chronic seizures, and we took him to the Emergency Pet Clinic, then co-located with Lacey Animal Clinic. Blair spent the night attempting to get Gunner to stop having seizures, medicating him well past what would be normally safe limits, with no results. We made the decision to end Gunner's suffering the following morning, and Blair was as upset as I was as I held Gunner watching his life end. Now, a week ago, Gunner's brother Chief started displaying respiratory difficulties, and I thought he was possibly suffering from something lodged in his throat (he chews EVERYTHING!), but after a night at the ER, x-rays, bloodwork, etc. it was determined that Chief has Congestive Heart Failure. The diagnosis was confirmed by Lacey Animal Clinic the following morning. Blair got it right, and made the correct recommendations in BOTH cases, and showed extreme compassion and caring in the care of our two big boys. We don't have much more time to share with Chief, but Blair was up front and factual in advising us what to expect. I'd recommend him to anyone!
Pros: Compassionate, thorough!

Failure to notice life threatening situation
posted 4 years ago
One evening around 7 pm I took my Dog (1 yr old Doberman) to Blair Burggren, DVM at OPE because I felt he was acting off and it was an emergency. I am a stay home dad and I am with my dog 95% of the time so I new something was wrong. The people were extremely friendly and after checking my dog they gave me a few options but did not feel it was a life threatening emergency and supposedly his vitals were all stable... They had no idea what was wrong and gave me the option to take my dog home which I trusted them to think it can't be that serious if they would offer this. I took my Dog home and he died in my arms 3 hrs later. I rushed him to the ER in the middle of the night and he was gone.... They failed me when it meant the most... The moral to my story is they should have been able to tell my Baby (Dog) was just 3 hours from death. How in the Hell could his vitals have been fine! Blair Burggan called us a few days later and appoligized for our loss and told us he couldn't figure out what he missed. My normal vet is furious because of there ignorance. It only takes one miss-diagnosis to break your heart.
Pros: Extremely friendly Staff
Cons: Overly ready to take your money...
