I will never visit the Banfield Pet hospital in Darien off 75th St. I had taken my rat there for skin soars. First of all, I had to wait 45 minutes to see the vet. When I met with a tech, she mishandled my rat, and grabbed him roughly by the nape of the neck, ignoring his skin soars and dropping him to the counter. The vet herself was extremely rude to me, and could not answer simple questions. They also wanted to look at his teeth, and I found out from a specialist you are only to do a mouth examination while sedated. They did not sedate. The vet tech came back with my rat, quickly told me the rat bit his cheek, and left. I looked at his mouth: it was bleeding and bruised purple. She did not explain any after care to prevent infection, nothing. Prior to this, the vet misdiagnosed a simple resp. infection, and told me it was unfortunate, and he woudn't live much longer.

I waked out after I saw his new injury to the mouth and did not pay.
Later they had billed me and charged me for an examine, which was not in my eyes, an exam at all. She never used a stethascope to check his lungs, and did not feel around for lumps. They had charged me for tests they had done, which I had never recieved results from.
I had to dispute the charge with their collection company and was directed from the manager that I am not obligated to pay the bill.

Pros: I can't say I have any

Cons: Horrible vet, unskilled techs, long wait time

Our rat buckles had a horrible sneeze and we thought it was a respiratory infection and during the exam at banfield they didn't check his lungs which is obvious part of the exam, they handled him by the scruff of his neck like a cat ( research showed that they can't do that) They cut his mouth and made him bleed which is unnecessary for a sneeze. We waited 45 minutes past our apt time. They misdiagnosed him saying that this was a chronic problem that will lead to death. After this horrible experience we took buckles to another vet and they said he had a res. infection and it was common in rats. Buckles is still alive!

Pros: they are conviently located in a pet store

Cons: they dont know details about many animals

Had my cat vaccinated there. Bob does not like to be held or touched, so you can imagine what kind of fight he put up. They had to put on these elbow high gloves. Sometimes Bob is so embarrasing.
