Made a stressful situation worse

posted 4 years ago

We recently had to put our 17 year old cat down. It was already a stressful situation, and they made it worse. My husband was upset when we learned our kitty was dying. He simply wanted to ask some questions, and while he may have been a little forceful, they treated as if he was a violent criminal. The doctor refused to talk to him, and so he went outside to calm down. The staff then locked the door and would not let him back in. I was having a severe panic attack from stress, but they would not let me go out to the car the get my anxiety medication.
My husband knocked on the door, trying to get back in, they said he was banging on the door and called the police.
We had to go outside to talk to the cop, all the while missing precious last moments with my kitty.
After the staff talked to the cop, they allowed me to go back in, since I was the owner. Without even getting to discuss our options with my family, I had to decide to put her down. I begged for the staff to let my family in to say goodbye, they told me they would not let my family inside. I was almost passing out from stress, and I simply wanted my loved ones with me. I even asked to just stick my head out the door to let them know it was happening, and was denied even that!! My mom, dad and husband did not even get to say goodbye. I sat there, head between my legs, crying my eyes out watching my poor kitty pass away with out the comfort of my family.
I later learned the officer had told my family outside that I didn't want them in there, but I digress. They over reacted, and should realize the stress and grief, and should have been properly trained and experienced on how to deal with this without calling the police. It was unnecessary and made everything so much harder. In the future, I will not be going back to this vet. Calling the police because people are grieving is heartless and cruel. Because of their intolerance, we missed out on precious goodbyes with a cat who had given us 17 years of love.

Pros: none

Cons: Many

Depends on what you think, I guess . . .

The place is overall not too bad, but personally we had a falling out with SVH . . . they said we had an appointment, then they called and said they had an emergency and couldn't keep us . . . then kept moving us to different dates . . . and were quite rude too. Finally we got fed up and now my dog goes to Wickaboag Veterinary Clinic. We love it there.

Our neighbors have a Lab who went there to get spayed. She ended up being allergic to the stitches that they put in there. Maybe it was just bad luck, but we decided to find another vet, and we find Wickaboag so much better.

Pros: Nice people

Cons: Bad service, some ?iffy doctors?

This is a great place to take your dogs. The paths are easy but varied enough to keep your interest. And if your really lucky, the rangers will give you a bone!
