Fun for the Whole Family

posted 6 years ago

My dog took a PetSmart training class at the Fountain Valley store when he was a puppy (about 4 years ago), and I loved their methods so much that I became a PetSmart trainer myself. So that you I am not completely biased, I based my rating on both my own experience as a student, AND by the transformations I see in my students and the Thank-You's I receive for them.

The Puppy and Beginner courses cover all of the basic obedience commands (or "cues" as we like to call them) plus socialization, plus good manners. That means Come, Stay, Sit, Down, and Leave It (you may not look at, bark at, step on, pee on, lick, sniff, or touch "It"), plus not barking, digging, jumping, or nipping, and walking nicely on a leash (not pulling OR "mopping" nor tripping). Our Intermediate course cover Heel, Wait, Stand, On-Your-Bed, and learning despite distractions. Advanced covers everything your dog needs to know to pass the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) exam, which is required to become a certified service or therapy dog. There's even a Click-a-Trick course which teaches everything from Shake to Crawl and from Roll-Over to Ring-the-Bell.

All you need is proof of current vaccinations, a non-choke collar or harness, and a non-retractable leash. And treats of course! We can also do Private Training sessions at the store at appointed times (Private Training sessions are mainly recommended for social issues such as fear/timidity and mild to moderate aggression and separation anxiety, or for entirely irregular schedules. Severe aggression is best dealt with by an in-home trainer.)

You can stop by your nearest PetSmart to talk to an Accredited Pet Trainer just about any time. EVERY PetSmart location has a training program.

Pros: Varied/Flexible Schedules, Family-friendly

Cons: Cannot come to your home
