Storm phobia: what should I do?

Last spring, my Annie decided that thunderstorms were terrifying. This came when she was six years old and with little history of the fear (she never liked being outside in thunder, but was perfectly fine inside). I was hoping she would forget her fear over the winter, but no such luck. … Read more

Zoe's scared of thunder

Posted by: Banzoe | Posted on: 03/8/09 at 10:20pm

Poor little Zoe gets totally freaked out about thunder now. A few years ago I was out with the dogs in my back yard and someone set of some M80's that were so loud my neighbor came running outside because he thought something blew up. Ever since that day I have a tough time getting Zoe out the door when it is thundering out. She usually stands behind me or next to me and will not do her busines… read more

Onyx is afraid of thunder

Posted by: suerob | Posted on: 10/15/08 at 9:33pm

A lot of dogs are afraid of thunder but she has a strange way of "dealing" with it. She hides in my walk-in shower. This is a two person shower and she burries her face in the corner. I would think it would sound louder with the tile and glass block. Cole comes to get me to show me that Onyx is afraid. I almost have to laugh because her nose is so buried that she is snorting. read more

dogs and lightning storms

Posted by: shadrack | Posted on: 10/6/08 at 11:28am

Lightning storms and heavy rain are beautiful... I find them romantic for some crazy reason, but it's just the different colors in the sky which forms an ominous backdrop for the cityscape that compels me to watch in wonder... but then there's the dog. The following ad is for a "Storm Defender Cape" which minimizes the effect of lightning storms on pets. I wonder what other people do to minimi… read more

We had some thunder and lightening last night. Ever since my dog was about 8 years old she has gotten really nervous when there is a thunderstorm. She looks for places to hide, shakes, pants and wants to be close to, if not on top of us. I took her down to the basement in the middle of the night where it's quieter and darker. She jumped up on the bed, put her head up by mine and panted, shakin… read more

Thunder and Lightning

Posted by: rowdysdad | Posted on: 02/11/09 at 12:46pm

Well the first real storm of the new year rumbled through last night. I don't know about others, but almost all my dogs hate this time of year. The thunder and lightning terrify them, and if not in the house they will attempt to go over the fence and run until they drop. They would be totally lost and I would be lucky to have them returned home. All have names and addresses on the collars, but I h… read more
