When you know there is a thunder storm coming put him in a room with all his favorite things and give him a Kong filled with treats. Keep the TV or radio on to drown out the noise of the thunder. read more

My Dog doesn't do this but I can imagine it happening. what my German Shepherd does is Howl at Ambulances and bark at the UPS and mail men. Your dog could be Scared or trying to challenge the object. … read more
My 10 year old Bichon is so scared of thunder that he starts to get out of breath, pants and shakes from 15 minutes prior to a storm and this last for hours after it is over. My advice is talk to another vet. My little dog gets so upset he throws up. He was badly mistreated before we got him and I think he was left out in thunderstorms, he is very afraid. My vet gave him a… read more

Poor little Zoe gets totally freaked out about thunder now. A few years ago I was out with the dogs in my back yard and someone set of some M80's that were so loud my neighbor came running outside because he thought something blew up. A lot of dogs are afraid of thunder but she has a strange way of "dealing" with it. She hides in my walk-in shower. This is a two person shower and she burries her face in the corner. I would think it would sound louder with the tile and glass block. Cole comes to get me to show me that Onyx is afraid. Lightning storms and heavy rain are beautiful... I find them romantic for some crazy reason, but it's just the different colors in the sky which forms an ominous backdrop for the cityscape that compels me to watch in wonder... but then there's the dog. We had some thunder and lightening last night. Ever since my dog was about 8 years old she has gotten really nervous when there is a thunderstorm. Well the first real storm of the new year rumbled through last night. I don't know about others, but almost all my dogs hate this time of year. The thunder and lightning terrify them, and if not in the house they will attempt to go over the fence and run until they drop.
