Town of Hempstead Shelter

they had may cute cats for adoption
except they are unorganized
i called to see how many declawed cats they had and i got like 3 different answers everytime
and when i went there they told me a cat was declawed and then i held her and i felt nails
they are unorganized but are still a good shelter

I had to go to the Town of Hempstead shelter to pull a dog I knew was ending up there. I left in tears. Cage after cage of scared little faces. Many of them with no access to the outside...sleeping on little plastic boards..or in buckets. There are no volunteers to walk the dogs...they don't allow it. There is one volunteer who works like crazy to get the dogs out of there...either into homes or rescue groups. Her name is Diane and she is the only bright spot in this place. The only good thing I can say...is that they don't seem to euthanize quickly...many of the dogs I saw had been there for 8 months or more. So if anyone really wants to help a dog...and get him out of a terrible situation...the TOH is a good place to go.

Let's see if these remain.

Pros: Seems like they don't euthanize quickly
