Supporting Shelter: BUTTE HUMANE SOCIETY
Pros: We found a dog we LOVE on our first visit to the shelter.
Cons: Many of the dogs are housed outside in pens due to limited space.
We adopted Stella on February 12, 2008 from the Butte Humane Society, and we have been extremely happy with our decision. Stella is a mix of wire-haired dachsund, pomerian and Cairn terrier. She has a lively, sweet, and loving personality, and she has become the "darling" of our household...even our 4 cats adore her!! We have MANY friends who would love to dognap Stella from us...
Since our adoption of Stella, we have visited dog shelters throughout Northern California, looking for a playmate for her, and a pet for a friend. We quickly noticed the difference between our local shelter and others in the state; Butte Humane Sociey desperately needs a makeover to adequately and safely house the many beautiful pets that they save regularly.
Prior to our adoption of Stella, we had always purchased our dogs as puppies from private sources. Our adoption of Stella has changed our minds regarding dog shelters and rescue, and now we have become HUGE advocates of adopting pets from shelters
Butte Humane Society's staff made the selection of a pet and the adoption process easy for a first-timer...we regularly check their website for possible new additions to our family!!
