After years of only owning pure bread dogs (and dealing with teh health issues), we decided to adopt from HSSA. I was looking for a poodle/mix, short curly hair with no shedding. My family spent several weekends looking for a new family member. One day we were walking through HSSA and I passed a 'smiling' white fur ball. I smiled and continued on. When I passed by again...the dog smiled at me again. On my third passing, that wonderful smile made it impossible to NOT get a closer look at this beautiful white fur ball named Sophie! We got to visit with her in the play area, and we loved her! We put a hold on her, and went home to get our grouchy old lady, Bella. When we got back to the shelter, 3 other families had expressed interest in taking Sophie home if we passed on her. In the meet and greet play area, the girls did not 'play' together, but they checked each other out, and to our surprise...Bella did not growl at or act agressively toward this 'stranger'. That sealed the deal and we took our Sophie home!
Sophie is so wonderful, that another family member decided to try adoption for the first time. She ended up taking home 2 new girls.
The staff at HSSA was helpful, and friendly. They keep the facility clean and give the animals lots of love. They have a wonderful outreach program, they have a featured animal every week, and they do their best to get to know the animals and give potential families helpful information. It is sad to see all the animals in the 'cages', but all the adoption stickers (showing the animals are going home) can still bring a smile to your face.
Thank you HSSA.
