Established in 1975, Orphan Acres Equine Rescue, Rehabilitation and Sanctuary, Inc. is a private, non-profit (501 (c)(3)) farm in Viola, Idaho. Here abused, neglected, and abandoned equine and other large animals are cared for and rehabilitated. Where our animals are from, how they arrive at the farm, the length of their stay, and where they go when they are ready to leave, depends on a variety of factors.

We have horses come to us from across the nation, Vermont to South Carolina, California to our own Northwest states, of Montana, Washington, Wyoming, Oregon and Idaho. Many come from places where the owner’s were either unwilling or unable to provide proper care. Often they arrive starved, in need of medical attention and otherwise neglected. These horses require a lot of love and a lot of food, before they are back in condition fit enough to be adopted or otherwise placed in a new home.

Since our inception, Orphan Acres has found a home for over 1450 animals. There are cases where an animal is too old or has too many problems to be safely adopted out, she/he then becomes a member of the Orphan Acres permanent herd.

Orphan Acres is a horse sanctuary located in Viola, Idaho. Orphan Acres offers a loving home for horses in need. Currently, it has multiple blind horses who greatly appreciate being taken on walks and munching on the hay. There are also various resident stallions who love a good neck rub. The main herd roams in a large pasture where watching them gallop up the hill is an awing sight. Orphan Acres is a haven for these animals- they'd love to have you come volunteer some time with them!
