Not much more than no-kill

posted 2 months ago

Yes they are no-kill, but they have too many animals to treat their shelter animals properly. Their hours are short and many dogs don't get walked at all. Their volunteer hours are extremely short as well, so the opportunity for more walks isn't there.
Plus they do not provide any information on their animals besides their names and ages. Behavioral background or past environment is vital information for new owners, and isn't provided ( I don't think they even know it).
In a perfect world they would provide training to their animals in order to increase their rate and permanence of adoptions.

Pros: No-Kill shelter

Cons: Everything else

Two thumbs way way up

posted 3 months ago

After being disappointed with a humane society's lack of apparent care and knowledge of the animals they house, we went to K-9 Bed & Biscuit (now known as Denkai Adoption Center) to meet a dog we had an appointment with that afternoon. We arrived an hour or two early and spent that time chatting with one of the staff about past pets and the animals there. He took the time to show us around and knew specifically all the dogs and cats' personalities and went back to check up on them/spend time with them while we were waiting. We were thoroughly impressed with their knowledge and concern about letting one of the dogs go home with us.

Thank you, Denkai Adoption Center, for the greatest addition to our family that we could've ever imagined.

Pros: Time is actually spent getting to know the animals and a lot of care goes into them and their surroundings

Cons: They're in desperate need of funding so they can continue upgrading the place
