Supporting Shelter: Humane Society of Cherokee County

Pros: The volunteers

Cons: Lack of funding

Humane Society of Cherokee County is a no kill shelter located in the heart of Oklahoma. Operated solely by volunteers, the shelter is nearly the only refuge for lost, abused, or stray animals in the surrounding area of the Cherokee Nation. With no source of income other then voluntary donations, it is a temporary reprieve that allows animals, who generally arrive in such bad shape that can not care for themselves, a way to find a second chance.

That being said, please note that The Humane Society of Cherokee County is finically destitute, constantly in danger of vanishing from existence. The volunteers are saints, working not only to support themselves but to support an organization of love and hope. Searching for fiscal relief around every corner, these volunteers stretch their dollar to the max and when it can not stretch any further, they still find a way to give more, even at great personal costs. When there is no more room, they make room. Finding ways to make shelter where there was none. Adapting old storage containers and reusing used fencing, they provide a safe environment for the lost, unwanted, and abused.

This shelter is not looking for an upgrade. This shelter is looking for a means of existence that will remove the uncertainty of its future. Sure the conditions are rough, the economic situation is grim, but the cause is great, greater then most. Without this shelter there is no alternative for these animals, only death. That is why an opportunity like this can change everything and better the lives of countless animals to come.
