Supporting Shelter: Humane Society of Cherokee County
Pros: We got the pet that we wanted.
Cons: A week later we had to give him back.
***This was through no fault of our own or the shelter***
There was a stray dog running around our neighborhood and we started calling him Bobby. He didn't leave after a few days and we called the animal shelter because we got worried for his safety (we live next to a busy highway). The shelter picked him up and talked us into keeping him. We were thinking about it anyway. When we went to pick him up we were so excited. The people at the animal shelter were so nice and knowledgable and helpful. Then a week later we realized that we wouldn't be able to care for this dog no matter how much we wanted him. Me and my husband had planned a trip out of town and my mother in law was working through the day and Dakota (the name the animal shelter named him) wasn't potty trained (we kept him inside) and the other animals hadn't gotten used to him yet. Heartbroken we had to call them to pick him up. They came back out and got him and are still very professional. I just spoke to one of the women the other day about a neighbor of ours that adopted a dog with the shelter who has been letting it run around the neighborhood. They called me back the same day and came to her house the next day to speak to her about the dog. They're as prompt as they can be and really do try to help out as much as they can. The only reason I rated their cleanliness at a 4 is because they really need a makeover.

I also wanted to add that the people at this animals shelter are very dedicated and as far as I know they're all volunteer. They deserve to be rewarded and taken care of the same way that they're taking care of these animals. If I didn't have so many classes I would definitely be a volunteer in my free time.
