Supporting Rescue: Angel Horse Rescue, Inc.
Pros: Very clean, friendly and caring staff
Cons: Need more space
I was very impressed with the manager, Rita, and the volunteers at the Humane Society of Cherokee County upon our very first meeting.
Immediately, I felt that the care, safety and happiness of the animals was first and foremost.
I was also impressed with the young lady who introduced me to each of the dogs while I was looking for a new addition to our family. She knew almost all of their names and talked to them is such a loving and caring fashion.
I was never pressured into adopting a pet. They emphasized how important a "good family fit" was for both the pet and the new owner.
Sadly, I had the opportunity to test this policy when our first choice was not a good fit for our family. When I explained the situation, the shelter manager, Rita was very understanding and welcomed the dog, Concho, back with no hesitation or question.
We decided then on a more senior dog, Elvis, who we later renamed Buddy, as he would be less agressive with our other pets, and again, Rita emphasized if there were any problems to give her a call.
Buddy became an instant family member and gets along with our other pets wonderfully. He absolutely loves being a "house dog" and beats us back into the house after his walks.
We even think he's getting younger everday as he plays with our young siamese cat,
Poe - they take turns chasing each other. That works out okay outside, but not so much around the kitchen table!
In closing, I'd just like to say thank you to the Humane Society for providing a voice and safe haven for God's creatures great and small...
