Supporting Shelter: Humane Society of Cherokee County
Pros: they're beginning to make an impact in the local community
Cons: too bad there aren't more people willing to help.
The Humane Society of Cherokee County is a small, no kill shelter in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
In a city and county rife with widespread cases of animal abuse, neglect and downright cruelty, a group of maybe 10 people is responsible for 90% of the shelter's activities and operations.
Yes, they aren't open all the time, but there are no paid employees and all of the work is done by a handful of people who are donating their own time and money to make a difference.
These people should be applauded. I just wish I had the money to give them a full time employee and bigger facilities.
