I am so glad there is someone willing to sacrifice so much for all these animals out there. There are so many animals out there that are being abused. These animals here at this shelter will and are getting the best care and love they can. Thank God for them!! Keep up the good work.

Keep on keeping on!!!!
This shelter has been on a long journey and i love to see it get something it deserves. Everyone works so hard to keep the animals clean, safe and healthy. I know if the animals in this shelter could talk, they would say a Big "THANK YOU FOR SAVING MY LIFE!" They not only take care of these animals that nobody wants but they also put information out there for all pet lovers. I am so proud of the work that they are doing. PLEASE LETS HELP THEM OUT!!!! Show your love for animals and vote for this shelter.

I can remember when this animal shelter first got started. The owner I can remember has such a passion and a love for animals it was unreal. I know that way back many years she would take in animals off the street that were strays that may have been injured or just needing a home and take care of them, treat them for illness and injury and love them. She never gave up on her dream. The shelter was first funded by a thrift shop in a vacant gas station. People from West Plains and surrounding areas would flock in knowing what the funds went for. To help the lost strays in West Plains Missouri. There were no other facilities for animals except for the dog pound. ( Not much love and care there!) While she ran the thrift store she took in animals at her residents just to give the growing population some where warm, clean and safe to go. It was overwhelming but she plugged on through keeping her dream in mind. She tried to get the city to help her but they found no need for such a facility. Why not? Didn't God make the animals too. We are to love them just as much as we love ourselves. They are helpless and need love and care. If private homes can't provide that then there is need of a shelter. Well she finally made it and found a building for the animals. It is a good facility, it does meet there needs but OH it could be so much better. I believe that if they won this make over people of West Plains Missouri would see just how important this is. There is a need for this in this area. People would be more apt to volinteer here at this shelter and take some load off of the owner. Although she would probebly still be there plugging away anyway because she loves these animals so much. If these animals could talk they would say a big "THANK YOU" She never gave up on the animals. No matter what any one said. This is her dream. How many times do you have to make someones dream come true?? Help this animal shelter win this contest. They deserve it. I have seen first hand for many years how committed they are to keep this going and I know this would continue even if they didn't win. But OH it would be lovely. Show your appreciation for this shelter and the animals that get the care they need everyday at this shelter. Love ya guys :)

My mother,Peggy Hammen was very instumental in helping the shelter get up and started. She opened and closed the thrift store for over 6 years and sometimes was the only one there to run it,the entire 7-10 hours that she was there a day!!She practically managed that thrift shop!!She always wanted things orderly,in their place, and kept the place neat and tidy! She was there everyday, except sundays, which was the only day the shelter was closed, back then.I guess 6 days a week, every day for over 6 years would make her a VERY reliable and valuable volunteer!I really don't know how the shelter would have functioned without her, because at that time not too many were interested in helping! She was a real powerhouse and a great manager!Good luck!

I agree! They just don't make them like her anymore!!Not too many people would be willing to be that giving of their time like that, but she was!She was a wonderful, generous, and quite hilarious person. That's the way I remember it!!
