I have been going to WPRAS since it opened on St. Louis Street years ago. If you have never been, please drop in! You will enjoy the animals and may find the perfect one to brighten your life! The volunteers are nice and helpful, and you can always find a bargain at the thrift store that helps support the cats and dogs!

West Plains is very fortunate to have WPRAS! I live on one of the first county roads out of town so we see lots of unwanted animals dumped to fend for themselves. I am owned by 2 of these great dogs, and have found homes for others, but some are not so lucky. (I always wonder why someone would throw away a perfectly good dog or cat!) That's where WPRAS comes in. They will never turn away an animal if they have the space. Often they are full. There is a need for more space and funds to care for the animals until they find a home.

Trish and her volunteers are friendly, compassionate and dedicated! They run a very clean, animals first NO KILL shelter! I have seen many disabled animals in the shelter and several have been adopted! The animals are also spayed or neutered before they leave the shelter! It is a win - win situation! The animals need homes and our lives are enriched by their love and loyalty!

Trish is very knowledgeable, and had she not chosen to dedicate her life to saving the lost and unwanted animals in this area would probably be a DMV today!

I have wondered how they continue to do what they do at WPRAS. It is a HUGE undertaking to clean, feed, medicate, do laundry and find the money to do all of this for the animals EVERY DAY! There is no pay, no vacation, and no days off! There is only one answer. It is for the love of the precious animals!

Then you would know my mother,Peggy Hammen! She was a huge help to the shelter. She was a very important and reliable volunteer. She opened the shop every morning and worked it for about 6 years! She and my dad,Gene, made their land available to the shelter,in order for the dogs to have a place to reside(the dogs are still at this location).I feel that she deserves some recognition, for the part she played, in helping the shelter get up and on its feet in the early days. She was a valuable asset to that shelter.
Yes, I know who your mother is and you are correct in everything you say! We have had many conversation in the past and she was a great blessing to the shelter!! Thank you and your mother for all that has and will be done!
Mentioning names of one who is very dedicated is my sister, Debbie. She puts in many hours volunteering as well as myself. When she goes to the Animal Shelter, I go with her. She answers questions that I can't answer or don't know so I direct the customers to Debbie because of the knowledge that she has & knows. Without Debbie, I know that Trish & Dennis would be lost. Keep up the great work sis, Love ya. Laura
I would probably know you by sight, but I don't get to go to the shelter every day like I used to so I don't know the volunteers by name like I used to. I do appreciate all that you and Debbie do. I know without your support the shelter would suffer! I hope I will meet you and know you by name in the future!! You have to be good people that I would enjoy knowing! Thank YOU!!!
