Being a community service scholar I do a lot of community service at Mckendree University and have worked at many humane societies. However, I've spent many years volunteering at the Perry County Humane Society and I've found it to be by far the friendliest shelter that rescues animals at a surprising rate for such a small establishment in a rural area. The volunteers and small staff do a tremendous amount to save the animals and the shelter is suffering financially - unsure when they may have to close their doors. It would be a great loss for the animals if the shelter were to close, especially when everyone is working so hard to keep everything up and running.
