Pros: Very dedicated group of volunteers
Cons: Building that is owned by the county is old
Pets Without Parents assumed management of the Mason county Animal Shelter in March of 2007. Euthanisia rate was reduced from 92 to 22%. Cheryl Patterson; Shelter Manager is very dedicated to either adopting or finding rescues for any dogs or cats that are adoptable. Sam Lant is the Animal Care Supervisor and he brings several years of experience in dog handling and training of German Shepherds. He is very knowledgable, and a compassionate member of the team. Dr Karren Crownhart is the Shelter Veternarian is there whenever any animal is sick or euthanasia has to be performed. She too, is very compassionate and only euthanizes as a last resort. Nancy Pfeiffer is a week-end animal care tech and she to is very knowledgable and donates several hours to humane investigations. Ben Shawgo is our high school student who has a very proimising future in the veternarian science field. He will be testing this spring for the euthanasia tech. We can't forget the many voluntters who spend coutless hours cleaning cages, finding rescues, and just coimforting the animals. Thanks to Jean Huber and Teresa Kline. Also, Dr Terri Dudis has donated countless hours to our organization.
But this review is just not for the shelter operations, but for Pets Without Parents of Mason and Logan Counties. We have 38 foster homes, have adopted over 1,000 animals since our inception 3 years ago. We have also rescued another 1,400 animals by sending them to other rescue groups. We have sponsored more than 2,000 spay and neuters, done over 200 humane investigations, assisted families in need with supplying dog and cat food, and helping with emergency vet care.

The winner will be announced as the HSUS (Humane Soceity of the United States) conference in Orlando, FL on May 15th, and will also be announced live on the Ellen DeGeneres show.
