Review Details

I am very disappointed with my recent visit to this shelter. After debating on whether or not to get another dog, my husband and I visited durning an open house this past weekend. After finding a puppy we were told that they were not doing adoptions that day and we should come back tomorrow. So my husband took the adoption paper home and filled it out. I brought it back the next morning to find out that the puppy that we had our hopes set on getting was being shipped to a different state to be adopted. My problem is that we were not told that there was something in the works for these puppies and I feel that we were misled in the fact that we saw them the day before and they were avaible and yet the next day they were not. At that point they tried to pawn off a differnt dog on me than the one that I had wanted. I will not be adopting from them now or in the future.

things like that will happen. they probably had a good reason for sending the puppy off. they are always looking for the best interest of the animal and go to great lengths to make sure they get it. they are also very busy all the time and it's unlikely they would have remembered you talking about the puppy, especially since i'm sure tons of other people were asking the same thing. i see it all too often. at least they tried to show you other dogs. i'm sure those guys needed a home more than that puppy did. don't worry about the puppy. the puppies are adopted just as quickly as they come in.

as for you refusing to adopt from SSHS, that's a real shame for the needy animals there.

Why ship dogs off to other states if you have interested parties in your own state? It is much better to work with the people that come to your door than to try to satisfy your shelter allies' shortages. I don't know of any state that does not have a surplus of their own dogs! Regions may have fewer available, but I think a shift within your own state's economy makes much more sense.
Notice should have been posted that the dogs are available for socialization, but not adoption. That may have cleared things up a bit. COMMUNICATION IS VITAL!!
Dear Disappointed,
I can empathize your feeling of disappointment after you bonded with the puppy only to find iy had an out of state adoption. The important thing is the puppy got adopted. Thank you for considering and giving a homeless animal a home. No shelter is perfect in every way. Please don't judge any shelter on one experience. They are often understaffed and overworked but rest assured that all shelters have the best interest of the animals at heart which may be a heart break as in this case. There are so many good dogs and cats waiting for a home each wiith a unique personality. Give another a chance and thank you for giving shelters a chance
I understand your disappointment, but most of their people there are volunteers. They don't always know what's going on because they aren't there every day. It's possible that someone found the puppy on line on petfinder.com and had the adoption in the works. I've adopted 2 dogs at this shelter in the past year, and they are the most loving and wonderful animals ever. I think you should give them a second chance. No one's perfect.
