The FM Humane Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to: *The prevention of cruelty to animals; *The education of proper care and humane care of animals; *And finding permanent, loving home for our animals. For over 4 decades the FM Humane Society has been engaged in the field of animal welfare. The FM Humane Society is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization and is governed by volunteer board of directors.

FM Humane Society services: Pet Adoptions, Lost & Found Services, Pet Resource Referrals, Pet ID Tags, List of Pet Friendly Rental Housing, Education Seminars and Animal Assisted Activities Visits. We also hold microchip clinics throughout the spring through fall months for the public's animals.

MYTHS and FACTS about the FM HUMANE SOCIETY

MYTH: The FM Humane Society receives national and local funding.
FACT: The FM Humane Society is a private nonprofit 501(c)3 organization fully supported by the generostiy of the community. Each year, the FM Humane Society has to raise 77% of it's budget from fundraisers, corporate support and individual gifts.

MYTH: The FM Humane Society is a chapter of the Humane Society of the United States.
FACT: No, the FM Humane Society is not a chapter of the Humane Society of the United States and receives no financial support from the HSUS.

MYTH: The FM Humane Society is the local impound.
FACT: The FM Humane Society is an adoption agency, rescuing animals primarily from the local impounds.

MYTH: The FM Humane Society provides shelter to cats, dogs, rabbits, rodents, birds, etc.
FACT: The FM Humane Society only provides shelter to cats and dogs.

MYTH: The FM Humane Society accepts all stray and owner surrendered animals.
FACT: The FM Humane Society has limited capacity, with 9 dog kennels and 17 cat kennels. Although the organization utilizes foster families, its capacity is still limited. Therefore, all stray animals must go to the local impound to give their owners a chance to claim them and owner surrendered animals are accepted only if there is space available.

MYTH: The FM Humane Society euthanizes animals if they are not adopted within a certain amount of time.
FACT: All animals reside at the FM Humane Society or in FMHS foster homes until they are adopted. Euthanisia is only considered as a last resort, and is only used if the animal's temperament is not suitable for adoption or if the health of the animal prevents adoption.
