Supporting Shelter: Humane Society of Barron County

Supporting Rescue: Minnesota Sheltie Rescue

Pros: Great changes over the last year

Cons: needs more space

I adopted Hunter, my second Beagle, a year ago this month from the Humane Society of Barron County. At that time the shelter was in a shambles, it was dirty and over run with cats and dogs and not managed well overall. There were cat cages all over the front entry area and it smelled poorly. About two months ago I returned to the shelter to check out the changes I heard about and was amazed. I can not say "WOW" enough. All the cat cages in the front removed, the smell gone, the animals maintained better, new management and changes to their mission statement. For being the only shelter in the county, a new animal control officer they are handling everything very well. Great job to everyone at the shelter for their efforts in these changes. The shelter is also doing a great job at outreaching to the community for assistance and fundraising events. I am proud to say I am now a volunteer at the Humane Society of Barron County.
