Supporting Shelter: The Washington County Humane Society, Inc.

Pros: WCHS staff work hard and get involved in money making ventures to increase donations for the animals

Cons: As I'm sure with all humane societies, the shleter is underfunded to optimally keep up with expensive maintenance needs for the building itself

I've been a volunteer dog training instructor at the WCHS for "many, many" years. I can't brag enough about the executive director and all her support staff to do them justice.
The staff are dedicated to the animals they serve and work hard to find them "forever" homes. I see staff members working more hours than they get paid for as there just isn't enough time to do it all in a traditional work week. The staff wear many different "hats" as it's impossible to get everything done if they only work within their job description.
The volunteer staff are amazing people, they are always ready to help by cooking food or baking desserts for fund raising, cleaning kennels, walking dogs, socializing cats, keeping the landscaping up and the grounds free of waste.
There are so many dedicated people involved in the shelter but there always seems to be more to be done, more to be cleaned, more to be fixed, more animals to be cared for. If our shelter got a building make-over, we would see a huge weight being lifted off the shelter staff. We would see less tired and red-rimmed eyes so the staff could devote all of their time and energy caring for the animals, and that's as it should be.
Sincerely,
Teayl Johnson
Shelter volunteer
