Pros: Compassion & Care

Cons: Not big enough

It wasn't until May, 08 when I first visited my local humane societey (WCHS). During that visit I was struck by the strong compassion the staff and volunteers had for the animals and their long-term welfare. The facility was clean and well organized but I think many facilities can pull these aspects off but it's not as easy to gain the full support and engagement of all those who provide the day to day care. When wags and kisses replace the zeros on the paycheck you must be able to find those who's heart hears the call for this work.

We ended up adopting a pitbull that had made the WCHS home for 7 months. They took him in when he was just over 4 months old and raised him through his primary puppy months. Despite his stereotyped breed and lack of ears (they had been cut off before his arrival) they knew he deserved, and someday would get, his forever home. Week after week and month after month they never gave up hope that he would find his place. Instead of giving up they went above and beyond to make sure his quality of life was the best it could be. Volunteers would take him to dog parks for lots of fun and exercise, the staff would secure him visits to the local doggy daycares, and he was able to go on play dates for socialization. These are just a few examples of how they made sure this dog didn't get forgotten or loose out on the fun of puppyhood. All of their love and care is what made our Ace the fabulous pet he is and we can never express enough gratitude to all who helped shape him. He's now in his forever home.

THANK YOU WCHS!!!!

We are all so happy that Ace found the home we were all hoping and praying for! Thank you for giving him a chance, and thank you for keeping in touch with us. We all adore him, and it is wonderful to be able to see him.

I didn't know, until I read this review who had adopted Ace. I volunteer at the shelter but work only with cats so I didn't work closely with Ace. I did see a lot of Ace when he was at the shelter and he was really a sweetie. I happened to be there the day you brought your other two dogs to meet Ace. I looked out a window onto the courtyard and saw all three dogs playing like a bunch of happy puppies. As soon as I saw that I was sure Ace was going to find a good home. I want to thank you for taking Ace home.

I absolutely love WCHS. I have been an adoption counselor there for almost 4 years. I chose this organization due to their love for all animals and the hard work their staff performs each day. They are a no kill shelter and no matter how long it takes there goal is to find a loving home for each and every animal. They do all of this with minimal space and a lack of better equipment. WCHS is a phenomenal organization loaded with lots of love. I am so glad I can be a small part of it. Vicki Parker

I was there on a Monday morning when you stopped in with Ace for a visit. I was so excited to see him & how well he was doing. It was great to see the reaction of the staff who obviously care very much for him! I think Ace recognized them as well jugding by his wagging tail! I hope Ace continues to do well!
