Review Details
There is a feeling that you get when you work with homeless animals that you just don't get anywhere else. They know how bad life can be, and they appreciate the good that much more. Rescue pets are genuinely pleased with the little things - the soft voice, the quick rubs on the head or haunches, the milkbone in the afternoon, the walk on a rainy day, a warm place to sleep. Volunteering in a rescue shelter - the SPCA of Southwest Michigan - is the best "feel-good" around!

I have been a member of the SPCA for quite some time. Working with the homeless animals give you such an inner feeling of accomplishment it just cannot be explained. I work on both the cat and dog side and find such gratitude and love when I look into those eyes that would otherwise be lost. Some of these animals come to us not knowing what love and tenderness is and I am glad to be able to give that little bit of life’s hope to them during their brief time with us before moving onto their forever families.
The kitten room is a room full of energy and lots of it! HEHE! Im sure you all know Pepper! I am in love with that cat, I really wish I could have another cat. I cried when his brother Quaker left, but Im glad to see he got a home. Oh, and I cant forget about Speed Bump, the "office cat", he is a great greeter! I have been with the SPCA for about a year, and I dont regret one minute of it! It has been the best! I got involved through the Kalamazoo Wings hockey games, I have been a season ticket holder for a few years.
You all have it figured out. We do it for the animals. We work together as a team and really do it right. Thanks for being a part of our group - working the every-weekend adoption events, walking dogs, working in the cat rooms, fostering pets, doing paperwork and the other thousand things that need to be done every week. A better VOLUNTEER organization cannot be found. We have made the best one out there, thanks to you!
I have only been volunteering since February of this year, but the satisfaction that I receive from helping to find homes for the animals to filing paperwork is overwhelming. The volunteers that work here are all very dedicated to helping those lost eyes find smiles(yes they do smile). We are a no kill shelter and how great is that! The excitement the dogs see when you enter their area is so overwhelming and the kitty room has several special cats that climb the screen door to see who has entered the office. The puppy people have to be the most extraordinary caretakers of all. Feeding and cleaning up, and the sweet wet kisses. How can they take of them, watch them grow, and then give them up. They give them up because they know how happy the pups will be. I could go on about the headmaster of the group who lives for this shelter. If not for him we wouldn't be. Thankyou so much
