Review Details

When I contacted the shelter to adopt a senior dog, they were concerned that I would not want her due to age. At arrival we asked for that specific dog a different one was brought out and then when Snowy was brought out it seemed as if she hadn't been bathed in weeks (smelled of urine) and she had been at the shelter that long. When we took her to the vet that day we were informed that she was deaf, which the shelter was also unaware of. I am thankful that they housed and fed her during this time, because she was a wonderful and loving dog during her short time with us and I wouldn't have traded that time for anything.

I am concerned that the condition of the dog could have been prevented with the participation of more volunteers. I live in Harrison and rarely see advertisements asking for assistants/volunteers. This information alone could give people the incentive to help out more often. There are so many retirees in the area who may need something to occupy their time while helping by giving of their love. I don't know how to organize something this big, but I think a big event, with a lot of advertising, featuring the sheltered animals may help to motivate people.

I don't live in Clare County but in a neighboring county. The director of our animal shelter (not the wonderful people working there, but the behind the scenes persons) will not allow volunteers due to liability issues. I wish things were different!!
