Pros: Try to find a home for as many as possible
Cons: Underfunded, overworked
I drive a truck and volunteer with several different groups in Virginia-we got an e-mail about a calico kitten that had a level 3, left side cranial heart murmur and the staff there didn't feel confident that they would be able to find her a home and yet certainly didn't want to make her live in a cage. So they sent out an e-mail plea to our group.
I was in Michigan and explained that the closest I would be able to get to them was Gary, Indiana. So they packed up this little kitten and brought her to the Pilot Truckstop.
The weather started getting a little cloudy, so I named her "Stormy" and had planned to adopt her to my girlfriend in Atlanta.
After about a week on the truck, I decided that "Stormy" or as I like to call her, "Baby-Cat" was going to be staying with me.
We're going to wait a while to get her fixed, to hopefully see if she grows out of this heart murmur some-hopefully she will-but she's got some of the finest vets money can buy who will be taking care of her and hopefully, she'll come out with flying colors.
Baby-Cat is a sweet, friendly cat who loves to curl up in the bed with you and she suckles and kneads her little bear-skin rug until both she and I are fast-asleep. When I stop petting her, she wakes up and meows as a reminder that I'm not done yet.
I really didn't need another cat-that is until I met "Baby-Cat"-thanks Almost Home for contacting us, I almost let this one pass me by!
