This area is riddled with strays and irresponsible pet owners. The Hammond Animal Control has to take the animals after the "no-kill" shelters fill up (who work very hard at what they do, as well). They also have to take dogs that are deemed too aggressive and unadoptable by other shelters in the area, as well. They receive little or no support from our community, and the building is inadequate and overcrowded. It would be wonderful if a place like this won the contest, because it would be a desperately needed extreme makeover! It would be so nice if the animals there could be more comfortable.
