I'm both a volunteer & Board member. We have underpaid, dedicated staff & never enough money, volunteers or time. Our shelter is woefully outdated & too small for the numbers we take in, but it's clean, the animals healthy & you'll never find a more caring environment.
Every animal is altered while we shelter it. It receives vaccines, preventatives, & vet care, if needed.

Potential adoptees are checked, too, before they can adopt--we don't let our animals go to just anyone who pays up. Our Adoption Coordinator ensures our "kids" are getting responsible parents.

Madison County Humane Society is a great place!

Zootoo has nominated our shelter's Adoption Coordinator Rhonda Estes as one of the "Top 10 'Not So Ordinary' Pet People of the Year."

Rhonda has volunteered at our shelter for the last 13 years. Our shelter was in a financial crisis and facing closure. Rhonda felt she needed to do something to help the shelter and allow us to continue to care for the hundreds of animals that come through our doors annually. Rhonda took dedication to a new level by deciding to sleep on an air mattress in the kennel area for 30 days & nighs, in an attempt to generate $10,000.
Her over-the-top stunt prompted an increase in adoptions and volunteers. It also generated donations from across the country. In total, her 30 day stay at our facility living among the animals generated $23,050.00.
