Supporting Shelter: SPCA Cincinnati

Pros: open 24/7-364; great, knowledgable, caring people

Cons: too crowded due to lack of space (will change when 2nd location opens this year)

They changed my mind about shelters who have to euthanize when neccessary. Seeing how confinement affects those animals made me aware how they're suffering, no matter how loving, clean, caring the people are. Those cats and dogs need homes and their "own" humans. No shelter can replace that.

The SPCA showed me how traumatic it is for these once loved and taken care off cats and dogs to become restricted in movement, contact with others/ people. IT MADE ME MORE AWARE!

I've seen cats once loved go into decline/get depressed and finally get so ill that they have to be put to sleep. It is heartbreaking!

The dogs get detatched and it feels like they've taken a "wait and see" attitude before they let themselves get close to a human. I've seen dogs understanding that it is their chance to be adopted and act accordingly just to be let down. Watching this made me want to cry.

Volunteering for the SPCA allows me to help, "dish out" some loving and give some consolence to those animals. The people at the SPCA have been wonderful, helping me fit in and make a difference.
