Pros: Honest, caring, responsive staff
Cons: there aren't more shelters like this one
I found a pup on petfinder from the BGWCHS, so I e-mailed to express an interest in her. I don’t live in Kentucky, so it would have been very difficult for me to come down and meet her. I was told this poor abandoned pup had a long list of issues from mange to submissive peeing, shyness and separation anxiety. One quote was “she pees every time someone touches her”. Some shelters might have lied to get this dog off their hands and out of their county, but the staff at BGWCHS wanted to make sure I knew as much as I could know about this dog before I decided to adopt her. We both took a chance and I ended up with the most grateful pup. After an 18 hour van trip, Maxi met her new family, issues and all. She does still have a few of these issues, but she had grown out of 95% of the ones she arrived with. She has become an affectionate, happy, beautiful dog with great social skills. She is the perfect dog for my family and I have the staff of BGWCHS to thank for this great girl.
