This is one of the most overlooked places to adopt a dog or cat in Louisville. The staff is nice and truly do care about the animals that are in their facility. I believe they offer low cost spay/neuter (correct me if I'm wrong) to the public and their adoption fees are lower than most of the shelters/organizations here in town. There are so many pure-bred dogs that get dumped here and also a lot of wonderful mixed breed puppies and kittens and adult cats and dogs that need homes. I wish more people would look at Metro to get a dog or cat. My neighbor just adopted a dog from there and told me about what a wonderful experience he had. (his mixed breed is adorable too) I also know they transfer animals to no-kill shelters on a regular basis when they can. This shelter has come a long way over the years and I want to thank them for their efforts!
The issue is the overpopulation of dogs and cats, so don't forget to spay and neuter your animal, and if you can't take care of it, don't get it in the first place! Great animals wind up here everyday because of people, this is not the fault of the animal. So think first, do the research on the breed, then adopt, don't get from a breeder.
