The Tupelo-Lee Humane Society was founded in December of 1979. This group of individuals wanted to bring more attention to companion animal overpopulation and replace the local "pound" with a true animal shelter. Both goals were accomplished. Today the society has approximately 500 individual, family, and corporate members.
TLHS currently contracts with and receives funding from the city of Tupelo to provide animal control (dog catcher) services for Tupelo. TLHS also receives funding from Lee County to take in stray animals that are brought to us by citizens from unincorporated areas of the county. There are no leash laws in the county, so we do not provide active animal control there. The Society also relies on funding from membership dues, donations, and fundraisers.
Dog/puppy adoption fee is $75.00
Cat/kitten fee is $65.00
The adoption includes: Spay/neuter,1st shot, bordetella for dogs, microchipping (with free registration) and up to 45 days of Shelter Care Insurance. Total value of over $200.00 in services.

With the help of fund raisers such as art festivals, pancake breakfasts, a golf tournament and very, very dedicated volunteers this shelter has stayed afloat for many years. The future is bright and the people of Lee county are lucky to have this shelter.
Pros: Small budget--Big heart
Cons: Need much more funding or large corporate sponsor

This shelter does so much with so little. They really need all the help they can get. I try donating money and plan on volunteering in the summer time. I wish I could volunteer all year, but I travel for my job Sept. thru May each year.
Please help these kind souls all you can.
Pros: Very nice volunteers doing the best they can.
Cons: They need a larger facility.
