Supporting Shelter: Lee County Humane Society
Pros: friendliest staff... where the animals come first.
Cons: unflexible protocols
The staff are very dedicated and genuinely wants to
help the people and the animals. Compared to the other shelters in the Southeast, the facility is relatively clean. There are separate rooms for puppies, cats, and big dogs. Adoption fees are 80 dollars, including microchipping, basic vaccination, and other extras.
Do look out for occasional discounts, though. Sometimes, fees go down to 60 or even 40 dollars. You can subscribe to the mailing list by contacting
lchs@leecountyhumane.org for quick and accurate updates.
The big pro is that many of the animals come spayed or neutered, depending on where they come from. Sometimes, the animals get spayed or neutered by the local vet school.
The only downside about this shelter is that the adoption process can be long and arduous. The staff reviews your application and tried sto make sure the animal goes to a good home. Be patient, and you will be rewarded with a perfect match.
