People-4-PAWS ("Pets Are Worth Saving") is a NO-CAGE and NO-KILL animal rescue organization, registered as a non-profit corporation with the State of Florida.

While we do not currently have a facility - we spend our days helping animals through our foster care providers. We have been very successful helping the animals in need of critical care (babies where their mother refused to feed them, or the mother has died).

We have a Board member that is highly skilled in taking care of newborn animals - Without her love and care these animals would have surely died.

Equally, we have helped many families in financial distress, find new homes for their pets. People turn to us because our current shelter system is often filled to capacity. We help them to either keep their pet in their home by providing food and medical care or, we take their pets into our care and provide a loving foster home, food, medical care, spay/neutering (we do not adopt or rehome any animal that is NOT spayed or neutered).

We are working with several universities regarding the current care and management of ferral cats and dogs, the benefits of spay & neutering, and a variety of other area.

Three of our Board members are certified in Animal CPR, emergency animal medical care and triage. This has been very beneficial as we have been called out to situations where an animal has been severely abused. Our extra training allows us to administer first aide while transporting an animal to a veterinarian.

There is much we do and have done in a very short time - even without an "official" facility. We often step in where other shelters can't. It is our pleasure to serve our community in a much needed and yet unique way. Soon, we will continue to serve our community in our, soon to be constructed, state-of-the-art facility that will offer our community a variety of services.

We are extremely passionate - that all pets deserve a fighting chance. We have done extensive research and interviewed several animal welfare organizations all across America - who's doing what, where - and how these other organizations are making a HUGE difference in their communities by lowering the rate of the killing of adoptable pets.

As a result of the time we have taken, we have been able to build a plan that includes critical, contemporary, "best practices" to be successful in today's world.

Our research shows - animals warehoused in draconian shelters and cages often are afflicted with behavioral issues that can minimize an animal's ability to be adopted. Often the fate of these animals, well, sadly, they are deemed "unadoptable" and, all too often, face being killed.

This is why, when our 25K sf facility is complete - there will be NO CAGES. Currently, there are about 8 major "no cage" facilities across the country. Organizations that have no cages also report less health issues in their animals - due to cross contamination of animals kept in cages. In most cases, their animals get adopted out more quickly. This is due, in part, to an environment where animals are more relaxed - therefore, more adoptable.

At the present time, we are waiting for our 501c3 status. Once we receive this - watch us ROCK! There are so many animals in this world in need of help - no one shelter can possibly care for ALL the animals in need. While we will be able to make a difference, we certainly won't be able to achieve a true NO KILL community with the help of other existing shelters.

Together, we can not just hope for a brighter future - but we can create one - a future where animal shelters are no longer a necessary or needed component to our communities.

We would like to thank those that have supported our efforts. Yet, other's have called us dreamers or idealistic. We thank them too - because they just make us that much more determined to succeed!

Idealistic - maybe. But possible - definitely!
