The no-kill adoption center at Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary & Hospital is home to many animals who have come to us in emergency circumstances, most having been severely abused, neglected, or abandoned. Many of these animals would have been put to death at other shelters because of the expense involved in rehabilitation. Animals coming to us in need of medical care are restored to good health prior to being placed in a new home.
Safe Harbor’s adoption policies are very stringent. We feel that the animals in our care have such tragic pasts, that they deserve nothing less than a wonderful, loving future. Our adoption animals are residents of Safe Harbor until they are adopted into loving new homes. All of the dogs and cats here at Safe Harbor are vaccinated, licensed, spayed / neutered, and micro-chipped prior to being adopted.
In addition to our no-kill shelter, Safe Harbor is proud to be the second low cost spay neuter clinic open to the public in the State of Florida when its doors opened in 1985. We have sterilized over 20,000 dogs and cats since opening thereby preventing the birth of literally millions of unwanted dogs and cats. Safe Harbor has a full service veterinary hospital open to the public with three full time veterinarians and handles many charitable cases as well. We also offer boarding, dog obedience training, a volunteer program and humane education in the schools.
