Best "Old" Shelter with the biggest heart!

Pros: The staff really care about the animals and who they go home with.

Cons: The facility is too small and over 50 years old.

This organization has supported the community through thick and thin. The animals are getting the best care and attention possible. The staff are underpaid and overworked but still love their jobs as it is a labor of love.
Dedication to the animals is at the highest I have ever seen.
This facility REALLY NEEDS A MAKEOVER! The building is clean but worn out and too small. They operate out of a mobile spay/neuter trailer the size of a small hot dog stand. Their break room is also the hallway for moving surgery animals through. The pre and post operating room used to be a living room, now turned into a work area.
The kennel area was build with the old "trough" down the back cleaning system, meaning every dog on the line is exposed to whatever the rest of the dogs have if they go into the trough area.
Rooms that were meant to be broom closets and storage rooms with no ventilation or windows are used for sick kitty rooms and owner turn in rooms. An old dilapidated walk in freeze is now used to store donated food. You really have to see the place to get the full comprehension of it.
And through it all, the staff clean, paint, and smile, just as proud of their facility as if it were modern and new. The animals are what really count here and they truly get the best care possible!

Central Brevard Humane Society has no government income, only donations and income from events and memberships. Volunteers continue to update the 50 year old building. The new flooring and waste cleanup is one of the most visible improvements. The facility desperatly needs a new buillding that would allow a spade and nuter facility for this no-kill facility. Happy animal volunteers that love helping the animals are truly the key to this well kept 50 year old facility along with management.
