Supporting Shelter: LIBERTY HUMANE SHELTER, GEORGIA

Pros: Caring staff

Cons: Buiding in need of repair

Liberty County is home to Fort Stewart, army base. A lot of money pours into the county due to federal impact funds, taxes, and high cost of living. The county recently built a new Board of Education building which costs millions - has marble floors and stair cases. Click here for a picture:www.liberty.k12.ga.us then compare with the sad, sad picture already posted of the Liberty County Humane Society shelter. It is in dire need of repairs, upgrades, etc.

Actually, The Liberty County Humane Shelter does not receive any funging from the County. All of the money goes to the attached Animal Control Facility. The Humane Shelter gets free rent in exchange for feeding the Animal Control animals. Still, I agree that the County could shell out some money to fix up this facility.

Like the previous writer said, we are a non profit organization that is not supported by the county. What poor conditions that are there, were much much worse 3 years ago.. Many changes were made but what can you do with a 60 year old building infested with disease and mice and roaches.
We try to make the best out of a bad situation..
We need a new building, we need a new facility...we need land, we need steady donations so we can continue to stay a no kill shelter so that we can continue to save the lives of these wonderful animals..

Sandra, I noticed a couple ads for Doggie Days around town and heard Frontline posted out info. I wrote another unanswered e-mail updating you about what Debbie had told me about needing to coordinate with you. I have never seen anyplace/anyone who says they WANT volunteers, but will not commuicate with them. I take issue with this. Julee

Julee,
Please send ALL your email correspondences to the shelter email address at libertyshelter@aol.com. If you are trying to contact Sandra on her zootoo account, her computer is not working so she can not check her zootoo messages.

I appreciate the information on the Liberty County Board of Education building. However, that has nothing to do with the Liberty Humane Shelter. I am sure you have been informed by now that the shelter does not receive funds from the county. I agree with another person who commented, that it would be wonderful if our community would agree to give funding to this wonderful place! I just hope we can jump start this community into caring about the shelter that we all need and all indirectly use. I am very thankful to the dedicated staff and volunteers who have made immaculate improvements to that area. I'm working hard to do my part in helping you all win this makeover!
