Liberty Humane Shelter is a no-kill, non-profit organization run entirely off of donations and fundraisers. We currently are housed at a county maintained site, but hope to build a new facility in the near future. Liberty County Animal Control and Liberty Humane Shelter share the responsibilities of maintenance on the building and share the cost of utilities such as electricity and propane gas. The two facilities also share the responsibility of cost of feeding and maintaining the animals such as food and cat litter, etc. We receive no other financial aid from the county or any other governmental agencies or federal agencies such as Fort Stewart.

The conditions of our facility are atrocious. We are housed in a 50 year old building made of nothing but mortar and cinder blocks. It was an old cinder block home that was donated to the county to house the animal control facility and the humane shelter. This building does not have the proper electrical wiring or the proper plumbing. We do the best we can with what we have but it has not been an easy task. We have had to spend funds on renovations for the facililty instead of putting that money into the animals. But as you can see, these improvements have been necessary to function on a day to day basis. Please take a moment to view our profile images to get a glimpse of the condition of our shelter building.

We try to save as many from the County Animal Control as we can. Unfortunately, we can not save them all although we are trying every day to find a home for our animals. When we do, it opens a kennel for us to pull from animal control. Liberty Humane Shelter also saves dogs and cats from the animal control facility at Fort Stewart, Georgia. Other animals are acquired from owner surrenders, these animals come to us for various reasons.

Liberty Humane Shelter sponsors microchip clinics, rabies clinic with the assistance of Dr. Peeples, and are involved in the community using every opportunity to educate the public about animal safety, animal awareness, and
spay/neuter awareness.

The Liberty Humane Shelter is also engaged in education about spaying and neutering. We work with our local vets and The Spay/Neuter Alliance and Clinic (SNAC) out of S.C. to ensure that all animals that are adopted from the shelter have been altered. The Liberty Humane Shelter is also a community pick-up point for SNAC. We are trying to do our part to decrease the pet over population in our area. If your animals have not been altered, please contact your vet immediately or a spay/neuter clinic in your area. If you are in the S.E. Georgia area and need assistance please visit SNAC at www.snac1.com or contact Bryan Animal Caregivers, our zootoo affiliated rescue, by visiting them at www.bryanac.org
