The Portsmouth Humane Society is one of the oldest humane societies in the United States with a history dating back to the late 1800's. We are an open admission shelter that does not euthanize for space. We contract with the City of Portsmouth, VA to provide animal sheltering for our city's homeless animals.

We can really use your help in winning the shelter makeover contest. Our building was built in 1982 but has really not been maintained. We need new kennels, office space, space for visitations, and just an all-around layer of fresh paint. Please help us provide a better space for Portsmouth's most innocent citizens-- its homeless animals!
