Review Details

I adopted 2 cats from this shelter in 2006. I love both the cats and I was very impressed by the staff and the facility at AWLA. The only problem I had was that one of the cats came home with ringworm and the other with a tapeworm. Since both cats had been at the shelter for a period of time I would expect that the shelter would take care of these problems. The tapeworm was very evident; within the first day after bringing the cat home she was showing the little pieces of the worm that look like yellow rice. The vet ended up finding the ringworm site on the other cat. The thing that annoyed me most was that when I called to discuss this with the shelter they were closed. Granted, the shelter did advise that they were closed on Wednesdays (the day I tried calling) for adoptions but I would expect someone would be available to answer the phone. For what I was charged for the two cats and all the additional things they require I would have appreciated some service in return. I will not recommend this shelter to others since there are many more in the area. Like I said, I was satisfied with the shelter until I brought my pets home and had a problem. Luckily the worms were all taken care of and the cats have been fine since then.
