Review Details

I adopted two dogs from the Cecil County (Maryland) SPCA and couldn't be happier both with my boys and with this shelter. One of my dogs was born blind and handicapped. Any other shelter would have euthanized him but the CCSPCA gave him a chance. He is now 7 years old (we adopted him as a puppy) and although he can't see in the traditional sense, he gets around just fine by smell and hearing.
Unfortunately the local community-- which is largely rural-- doesn't appreciate the high standards of this shelter. They complain that they have to pay anything to adopt an animal.
But this shelter spays and neuters all animals before adoption, gives all shots and tests dogs for heartworm and spends the $ to treat heartworm positive dogs! I know of no other shelter in the region that does so. They have a full-time veterinarian on the staff who also runs low cost vaccine clinics for the public and does low cost spay and neutering.
They work with out of state adopters who find their furbabies on Petfinder or on their own website. The website is:

This is really a great shelter. They keep a clean shelter and the animals are cared for very well.

This shelter does kill animals for space, and sometimes doesn't even give them a chance, kills them right after the owner drops them off. I know this for a FACT! This animal shelter should not be supported by any means. They run this place a business, and though they may care for animals, they don't take every effort in saving them. I know they've let loose cats because they didn't want to medically treat them. Keep this in mind before supporting this shelter.

We know who you are despite your "anonymous' status. You are telling lies here, just as you have in other local venues. Just ask the cats who have lived in our open no cages cat room for up to 5 years, or ask Rickie, a dog this shelter housed for two years before he found a forever home. Please stop your politically motivated lies. Everyone knows who you are and what your real personal agenda is!
