Review Details

My husband and I just adopted "Frank," a 3 month old Dachshund from the Humane League of Lancaster County.

The staff was very good at answering any questions we had and each person we talked to knew exactly where our puppy had come from and conditions in which he came from.

Before you can visit with a specific pet, an application is required so that the staff can ensure you are legitmately interested and ready for adopting a rescued dog. They ask the appropriate questions and even called our landlord to be sure it was okay that we had a pet in our apartment.

After paying the adoption fee (which is very reasonable based on the age and type of pet), they make sure to spay/neuter your pet and get her/him up to date on shots as well as inserting a microchip with our information. We were given a whole folder of info about our new pet and a dvd about "training your adopted pet." They give a bag of Science Diet dry food (which we passed on since we already had food ready and figured someone else could use it more than us) and make sure that you make an appt with a vet within 10 days to ensure the pets health.

After I brought Frank home, the very same day they called to check up and see how the trip home was and to warn us that another puppy in his group is hypoglycemic. They told us what symptoms to watch for so that we were well aware of what to expect, should our puppy turn out hypoglycemic as well.

They really are a great group and my husband and I plan on volunteering with them in the near future!
