Review Details

The HSHA has been taking care of homeless pets in the Harrisburg Area for about 100 years. it's current shelter is very old and crowded.

The shelter covers 3+counties with only one humane police officer. Since Pennsylvania doesn't underwrite its animal shelters, HSHA has to rely solely on fund-raising and contributions from the public.

Having been both a volunteer and an employee, I know first hand that this shelter desperately needs an upgrade. The dog kennels are not air conditioned and the cat rooms are small. This cramped environment can lead to stressed-out animals.

Let's hope HSHA wins this makeover!

HSHA has always had good managerial staff and the current staff is A-1. The current management benefits from the previous one. Kim Moreland and Jill Troutman laid the foundation for what the shelter is today. They brought in computers, upgraded the East Shore facility, and built a database of loyal contributors.

They deserve a lot of credit.

The leading shelter is a Pennsylvania shelter! Our Harrisburg shelter is in dire need of a makeover, too, so let's all get going and help HSHA over the top.

This shelter has changed so much for the good over the 15 years that I know of when I adopted my Little Guy. It was a small crowded place then, but the people all were wonderful and did their best to care for the animals. Each management team and all the shelter workers have contributed to making HSHA an outstanding facility. It is now poised to become one of the finest. All it takes is community involvement and personal responsibility to put HSHA on the map.

This is the only place for unwanted animals in our area to find shelter and care. HSHA needs our help badly. Right now it's 16! We have a real shot at becoming #2. Don't think we can catch the 84 shelter unless everyone in our community votes for HSHA. Let's get going.

#15 today! We have a shot at #2. I think we are going to make it!

#14! Lookin good.

#10 today! The animals of HSHA have a shot at getting a nicer home. Let's keep going!!!!!!!!!!

Wow! #8 today. We have to remember, tho, that even if the HSHA gets to be #1, winning a $1M makeover is just the beginning.

It takes megabucks to maintain a large animal-care facility and keep a well trained caring staff in place. We still need to find a steady source of income to insure that this fine facility stays that way.

WE NEED TO DO MORE NOW!! WE COULD HAVE BEEN #2 NOW WE HAVE TO FIGHT JUST TO KEEP #4!!!!!

All shelters face the same problems: impending bankruptcy and overcrowing. That is a fact in my opinion because:

1. Shelters rely on the public for support, and

2. The public relies on shelters to take care of the animals they don't want.

We as individuals need to take responsibility for our animals. That alone will help the over-crowing issue. Fund raising alone can't support an animal shelter. I think HSHA and all the shelters in Pennsylvania should take a stand for government funding.
