They provide a much needed service to a very rural area with limited resources.I guess they are doing the best they can with what they have, however.I moved here 10 years ago from Washington County.Their Humane Society had the most points in the recent makeover contest. So,there were pretty big shoes to fill. Some staff seem a bit disillussioned, petty and at times bitter!Maybe I just catch them at a bad time-but it is a public facility that is only open about 25 hours a week to the public. You'd think they could be more pleasant, helpful, and cautious as to what is said aloud!I always hear someone complaining about working and wanting not to be there!I felt as if I was being treated as one of the abusive, neglectful people that surrender their "strays".I was in between homes and had to take a few of my cats in until i found a new place-they didn't even know how to deal with an actual owned surrender.I understood this as I'm sure people claim the animals are strays to avoid paying.I paid half my monthly income for the 6 cats that were already neutered/spayed,vaccinated,wormed and healthy ! When I returned to get them a month later,I had to pay again to adopt them. This I still didn't mind really. It was when a worker moaned about having one of my cats being picked to go to the Petsmart in Washington that irked me to no end!It was my cat and I was there to get her-she would just have to pick another!!No big deal-I thought! But no-how dare I mess up her plans! Fortunately the main lady-Jane ,is absolutely wonderful a really seems to care about the animals.Had no problem adopting a puppy a few months back-even took her home the same day.And it was one of the volunteers{I believe}that really closed that deal. She placed the puppy in my arms{she was in a birdcage}saying how she needed a new "mommy".BRAVO-it worked like a charm! In closing:As a business owner myself here in Greene county,I totally understand how difficult good help is to come by.Work ethic is lacking down here.Funding is even more scarce. And there are too many uneducated, low income people whose heart may be in the right place-but are not doing these animals any favors. In other words-they are fighting an uphill battle the whole way,but are not giving up anytime soon I hope!
