Pros: Knowledgeable, caring about the animals

Cons: Don't disclose everything until the last minute

We adopted Gretta, a year old cat a few weeks ago. She is shy, and doesn't like to be held. She is sweet though, when she is ready for some love, she will jump right in your lap and purr like crazy. She is very cute.

My children and I went to the shelter to pick out a kitten. We recently, and unexpectedly lost our 4 year old kitty, Toby, and we thought we would give a new home to a shelter cat. We fell in love with Gretta. At first they told us we could take her home that night, then said no, we had to wait 24 hours. I filled out the paperwork, and was then told we couldn't have her because we had a kitten who was not yet fixed. My daughter was heartbroken, and cried so hard. They finally told me if I at least made an appointment for my kitten to get fixed, I could take Gretta home the next day. So I did, and Gretta now lives with us, and we love her.

She was infested with fleas though, we have been working hard to get rid of them, but with the amount of animals at the shelter, it didn't surprise me that she had fleas.

About 10 years ago, we also adopted a dog from the shelter. She lives with my in-laws, and is a happy, healthy girl.

I would reccomend this shelter to anyone, these animals need homes! If I could, I would adopt more, but I live in a small home, and it wouldn't be fair to have anymore animals.

Go to your local vet, and ask about purchasing a monthly dose of flea control - such as Advantage, which will kill all the fleas on your cat within 12 hours, and provides continuous protection against infestation for up to a month at a time.

I have to agree with Washy and get the flea treatment which will help a lot. You also have to vacuum the floor often and clean all fabrics that you can to get rid of the flea eggs that will hatch later. If you don't vacuum and clean the fleas will just keep returning and it will be a never ending process!
