The best shelter - but desperately needs a makeover (then maybe I will get my dad's sponsored room from 2002 ???????

After just returning from my visit to Little Shelter today, it only confirms what I have known since being a fan of Little Shelter for the past 10 years. Little Shelter is run with love. Both the volunteers and the employees work at LS from the heart. If you go there and hang out awhile like I did, you will see all the employees and volunteers doing what they do because they love the animals. Picture a young man who could be out creating havoc like many of them like to do, instead sitting on the floor of the cattery cleaning out a litter pan with a cat sitting in his lap. So, while he is doing his "chores" he is giving love at the same time. That is what Little Shelter is about - LOVE. The place is full of pictures of all of the past and present babies - and the staff misses them after they are adopted - like a mother would miss her child going off to college. It is heartwarming, too, to see the volunteers who come to dog-walk, cat-pet, etc. I felt so warm being there among all the animal lovers. And, you see what people who don't have much do for the shelter. I saw so many home-made crocheted blankets for the pets - made with love for each and everyone of them. The staff (my favorite being Jodi) knows each animal by name which is amazing if you walk through the cattery - there are so many of them - over 300 !!! How on earth these warm and wonderful people remember all their names truly is another example of how they care. (And so many look similar - how they distinguish them is beyond me). They described the personality of each and every animal to me - which is important when trying to adopt them out and find the perfect owner for the perfect pet. The shelter is in desperate need of money and a makeover - but what it really runs on is love. Please take the time to come see Little Shelter - you will feel good that you did (and maybe it will encourage you to adopt someone in need of a good home). Although if I were an animal living at LS, I would be quite content with all the caring and attention the animals receive. My heart goes out to each and every volunteer and employee of LS - you are all the greatest people for doing what you do and have my highest admiration and respect. You are doing something so worthwhile and fulfilling - and LS is blessed to have you all there. There is a special place in Heaven for all of you - right there next to the dogs and cats, as it should be!

Gee Vicky, you made me cry reading your update. Little Shelter is not just a job to those of us who work and volunteer there - it is our life! Many of us have left higher paying jobs to come and dedicate our lives to the animals. After more than 7 years with Little Shelter there was no place I'd rather be. It was a pleasure to take you through the shelter last weekend and we all appreciated the yummy cookies and cake you brought us. Your support of Little Shelter is very much appreciated.
