Supporting Shelter: Liberty Humane Society

Supporting Rescue: Eleventh Hour Rescue

Pros: Very good with animals, especially pit bulls

Cons: It is not a no-kill shelter

My friend works at this animal shelter and I know her and her husband spend a lot of time at adoption events, building maintenance, and caring for the animals. Almost every month, she brings home an animal(s) to help nuture them back to health. In fact, they are how we met our dog, Lily. She had brought Lily home to care for her. My boyfriend fell in love at first site. I was a bit skeptical because she is part Pit, but after doing much reading on the breed and spending time with her, I realized she was just a mush. She is the most gentle dog I've ever known. She's loved by kittens, other dogs, and people! Once another dog, whose owner said she was friendly, try to snap at her and she ran behind me. Not much of a guard dog either, I've had people walk into the house who she has never met and she greets them with a wagging tail. I know not all pits are the same, but if I were to have the chance to adopt another dog, it's going to be a pit.
