Located in a converted garage in Jersey City, the Liberty Humane Society strives to provide homeless animals with respect, care and works hard to find them new homes. We have made best of our facility as is, but could use some extra help in making it a state of the art animal shelter! LHS provides many services to the community such as low cost spay/neuter, TNR - trap, neuter release program for feral cats, free food program for residents of Jersey City who are unemployed and can not afford food for their pets, a Pet Loss Support group and our Seniors for Seniors program (discounted adoption fees for senior citizens). We are very proud of our B.A.D. Dogs program. B.A.D. Dogs (Bullies are Deserving Dogs) was started when shelter staff saw great and sound dogs - Pit Bulls sitting in the shelter unadopted simply because they were Pit Bulls. B.A.D. Dogs works to educate the public about Pit Bills and helps socialize and train the adoptable Pit Bulls in our shelter. Volunteers are essential in helping our shelter run smoothly. Our volunteers are amazing and so dedicated to LHS but we could always use more animal lovers! There are many volunteer opportunities available and we are always looking for new and dedicated volunteers! Stop by LHS to see our wonderful adoptable animals or to pick up a volunteer application and see why you should help LHS win the Zootoo makeover! Please visit our website at
