Supporting Shelter: New Fairfield Sherman Animal Welfare Society
Pros: Great Place
Cons: Too far from where I live now
I adopted my cat Pat from New Fairfield/Sherman Animal Welfare in 2002. I also volunteered there in 2002. It's a great place and they really care about the animals.
Pat is a special needs cat. I knew this when I adopted her but I wanted her anyway. She couldn't see very well at all and in fact, we thought she was completely blind. As it turns out, she suffered some sort of trauma and had some neurological damage. That is causing the left side of her body to be less sensitive to feel. As well as causing blindness in her left eye and some hearing loss in the left ear. Her right side is fine as far as the doctors can tell. She also experiences seizures as a result of the trauma. Lastly, Pat also has chronic kidney failure which popped up about year ago. She is six now. Needless to say, Pat has become a regular at the vet. She has had her ups in downs in terms of health issues but she has always remained the feisty little cat she is.
Pat doesn't know she's special. As a matter of fact, she thinks she's the boss of the house! As far as she is concerned she has all her senses. Oh she does bump into a wall or two from time to time but she shakes it off and continues on her way. I am so grateful for having Pat in my life. She has taught me to persevere in the face of insurmountable odds.
I am glad I got the chance to volunteer at New Fairfield Animal Welfare society. The took good care of Pat before I adopted her. They really care about their animals.
