Pros: Excellent place to become knowledgeable of horsemanship
Cons: watering situation is tough, needs a makeover!
Tara Farm is a wonderful place to volunteer at. I started there doing small animal massage as part of my internship to become certified. The more I went, the more I was hooked on helping out. The animals are all very appreciative of individualized attention, and it feels good to give back to them through cleaning stalls, and fixing fences, watering, feeding, brushing, and of course giving treats! It's a very busy place for BonnieJean Gorden, the owner, because she has to oversee all the volunteers, the 4H club, along with all the normal day to day chores, she hardly has time to do anything for herself - but she puts her heart and soul into all the animals on the farm - they are lucky to have someone like her looking out for them. Because it is a small, private non-profit, sometimes it's difficult to get a hold of someone via email, or phone, because even that aspect is based on volunteer's time - but be patient, and they will get back to you and try to answer any questions you might have. I highly recommend volunteering there to anyone that loves animals, and has a few hours of time to spare.
